William Morgan “Gwilym Alaw”

The late Mr William Morgan (Gwilym Alaw), who passed away on Monday week at the age of 72, was a native of Rhigos. He was a parish and district councillor. He was a deacon of Calfaria (Cong.) Chapel, and for 40 years was secretary of the church. A year to the day he died he was presented by the church with an address and a purse of gold. He was a well-known bard, many of his productions having appeared in the volume, “Oriel y Beirdd.” He had won many eisteddfod trophies.

On Thursday the interment took place at Penderyn Churchyard. The Revs. E. Wern Williams, Hirwain; Aneurin Davies, Glyn Neath; J. Williams (W.), Hirwain; M. P. Moses, Hirwain; J. T. Evans, Capel y Glyn; Ben Vaughan, Cwmdare, and the Rector of Penderyn officiated. The chief mourners were: Widow; Mr and Mrs Gwilym Rees, daughter; Miss Blodwen Morgan, daughter; Mrs Mary Morgan, Blaengwrach; Mrs Mary Williams, sisters-in-law; Mrs Emma Price, niece, and Mrs D. J. Rosser, Glyn Neath; Mrs Alice Lewis, Mrs Jones, Treharris; Mr Jonah Harries and Mr William Harries, Glyn Neath; Mr and Mrs Maldwyn Jones, Mr Dan Rees, and Mr Lewis Davies, schoolmaster, Cymmer.
